Mum spent 1/2 of her money on a handbag, 1/4 of her money on a pair of shoes and 1/8 of her money on a wallet. What fraction of her money did she spend altogether ? If she had $200 initially, how much money was she left with?

 $\frac{1}{2}$12  $\frac{1}{4}$14  + $\frac{1}{8}$18

=  $\frac{4}{8}$48  +  $\frac{2}{8}$28  +  $\frac{1}{8}$18

=  $\frac{7}{8}$78

She spent  $\frac{7}{8}$78  of her money

1 -  $\frac{7}{8}$78  =  $\frac{8}{8}$88  -  $\frac{7}{8}$78  =  $\frac{1}{8}$18

 $\frac{1}{8}$18  ×200 = 25

She was left with $25

Jeremy had 18 cookies. He gave 3 cookies to his friend Daniel and ate 1/3 of the remaining cookies. How many cookies did he eat?

18-3 = 15

 $\frac{1}{3}$13  × 15 = 5

He ate 5 cookies
